Anti-War art by Francis O'Donnell on display in Grand Rapids. Stop by Devos Place between September 19th and October 9th to see "Guernica Redux."
O'Donnell says of her work: The work is homage to but not a copy of Picasso's Famous Anti War Declaration named "Guernica" which now graces the halls of the United Nations! "Guernica Redux 2012" is a cautionary image of one of our possible fates, if we do not learn from our past but keeps repeating the senseless horrors of war and destruction! It is an Apocalyptic Vision of the next man made World War--The end of time.
Inspired predominately by the Nazi Holocaust and the attempted Genocide of the Jewish people, it also haunts us with the repeated mindless acts that have follow in the intervening years in Cambodia , Rwanda, Darfur etc......My painting and its iconography are a plea for the end of hatred of all kinds and for an end to war, bigotry and injustice. I believe this painting will be controversial, thought provoking and a cause for debate and discussion! I hope it will also become a symbol of tolerance, one that causes people to think about their actions and to realize that the only way forward as a species is through love, respect, and mutual tolerance for one another.
