Imam Feisal is a leading moderate voice who reaches out to people
of all traditions to engage in interfaith dialogue and to forge
connections of trust and mutual support.
Born of Egyptian parentage and educated in England, Egypt and
Malaysia, Imam Feisal holds a B.Sc. in Physics from Columbia
University, NY and a M.Sc. in Plasma Physics from Stevens
Institute of Technology, NJ. He speaks English, Arabic and Malay.
Imam Feisal is the author of several books, most recently, Moving
the Mountain: Beyond Ground Zero to a New Vision of Islam in America
(Free Press, 2012). Other published works include What’s Right
with Islam Is What’s Right with America (Harper Collins, 2005), “Justification & Theory of Sharia Law: How the American Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and Constitution are Consistent with Islamic Jurisprudence” U. of St. Thomas Law (2010) and Quran for Children (co-author, Kazi Publications, 1985).
Imam Feisal has received numerous awards including the Search for Common Ground for Interfaith Diplomacy in 2012, Time magazine named him among the 100 most influential people of the world in April 2011 and was listed as one of the Top 100 Global Thinkers of 2010 by Foreign Policy magazine “Imam Feisal is an ideal ambassador: an immigrant to America, a defender of its principles, and a believer that people of diverse backgrounds and faiths can thrive within its borders. Here, he has put his gift of storytelling
in service of the empathy that all of us - Muslims and non-Muslims alike - so
desperately need.”— Arianna Huffington
"Feisal Abdul Rauf is a name that one day should come as easily to the
lips as do the names of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Gandhi. It is my hope
that when my fellow Americans read this incredibly moving and
enlightening book they will feel the scales of ignorance and fear falling off
their eyes. With gentleness and love, [Imam Feisal] seeks to bring us all
together in post-9/11 America." — Michael Moore
In Moving the Mountain, Imam Feisal invites readers to explore a deeper
understanding of the role of moderate Muslims in America and in the world.
